We made a trip to the Minneapolis Institute of Arts for the featured exhibit Rembrandt in America. Countless pieces of art from the master to inspire painters and photographers alike. I enjoy his style in light and shadows. A good study in our photographic craft. Below is another example of light and shadow that I found compelling.

I hadn’t studied the old paintings from a light and shadow perspective, but you are right. As I look around the painting, it looks like he nailed the shadows, and he didn’t have a photograph to freeze them at one point in time. Or maybe he did, in the form of a photographic memory. Very interesting.
Really interesting note. I love colors and light of this painting. Just superb !
Really amazing works of art, I do enjoy looking at old paintings for inspiration as well. I guess in the old days when painting/drawing was the only way to recreate and image those guys had t really think a lot about composition, light, shadows and textures, much more than we (thankfully) have to do these days
a timeless masterpiece!!!
Wow, is that a painting? It is fabulous!
What wonderful light and compositions. Thanks for showing these.
