We all know about the rule of thirds. But sometimes a centered head on image makes sense. That works in theory in my opinion. Looking back into my archives, I found a few head on centered images, one of which is shown here. I am not sure how well this concept works here or if it even creates an interesting photo. Either way sometimes rules are meant to be broken.
Rules are made to be broken. Great shot!
A tiny old house but it has lots of charm and black and white suits her well
The center head works pretty well especially because of all the symmetry of the straight lines opposed to the symmetry of the landscaping curbs.
You are absolutely correct…experimenting is fun and rules don’t necessarily function well in all situations. That’s life as well as photography!
The rules are there to be broken, but usually only by those who know the rule and realize they are breaking it. If you don’t even know the rule, then you aren’t intentionally breaking it, and if it works, it’s more luck than art. Here, it works, and I know it’s art.
What a quaint little place. Looks cool.
Totally pleasing! with a bit of (porch) asymetry
A great photo is the subject and how one reacts to it, not rules… it is pleasing to the eye!
Excellent–I agree the centering and balance really work here
Personally, I like some shots centered and head on. Later for the rules in this case.
Nicely done!
wonderful shot, composition and very atmospheric BW …
